In his very well illustrated talk Dr Harsh took the participants on a journey through a myriad world of macroscopic Fungi, emphasizing on their ecological and economical roles. He briefly described the extent of fungal biodiversity and the gaps in knowledge we have about this large group of organisms, He introduced to the audience many colorful and novel fungi present on forest floors, on the tree trunks and in the rotting wood and humus. In the question answer session several queries related to poisonous mushrooms and how to identify them in field and biochemicallyin the laboratory were answered. Dr Harsh ended the talk lamenting that the present-day young researchers do not take up the path of taxonomic studies which in future would be a great loss to the scientific world.
The registered participants included faculty, research scholars, post graduate and undergraduate students from different Universities. The lecture was streamed live on you- tube and viewed by over 500 participants from different parts of the country and globe. It was well received and appreciated by all participants.
