Industrial Visit to India Glycols Limited, Dehradun
The industrial visit to India Glycols Limited was carried on 28th June 2023 with 29 students from the departments of Microbiology and Biotechnology and faculty, Dr. Pankaj Gupta, Associate Professor, Department of Microbiology, and Training & Placement Officer Mr. V. R. Panwar. Dolphin (P.G.) Institute.
The objective of the visit was to understand the production procedure and practical implementation of advance techniques in Pharmaceutical industries, to observe specialized laboratory equipment and facilities used in industrial production, quality control, quality assurance, research and development, to gain insights into the role of fresher and experienced professionals in addressing challenges faced by different sectors and to interact with industry professionals and learn about career opportunities in the field.
The students were welcomed by the HR officials of the company. A presentation about company was given by the Senior Manager HR Mr. Swatantresh Mishra. The students were told that India Glycols manufactures glycols, ethoxylates and PEGs, performance chemicals, glycol ethers and acetates, natural gums and potable alcohol The company is in the business of manufacturing natural active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), standardised botanical extracts and spice extracts for the beverage, dietary supplement, functional food, pharmaceutical and cosmeceutical industries. The company was established as a single mono-ethylene glycol plant in 1983. Since then, IGL has brought together cutting-edge technology, innovation and an unflagging commitment to quality, to manufacture a wide range of products that have found global demand.
The students visited the company and saw various instruments including fermenters, autoclave, fume hood, etc., workers manufacturing various chemicals, extracting oils from sunflower, and many more.
Students also got a chance to visit Production Department where they saw the procedure for extraction and production of several chemicals. They also visited QC Micro and saw testing of water.
Throughout the visit, the students had the opportunity to interact with various professionals working at India Glycols Ltd., Dehradun. They shared their experiences, knowledge, and advice regarding pursuing a career in biotechnology, opportunities for further studies, and industrial expectations from aspiring professionals.
The industrial visit was good as per the feedback of the participating students. TPO Mr. V. R. Panwar along with Mr. V. K. Nagpal, Director also interacted with students about the industrial visit. The students have suggested arranging more such industrial visits in future to companies related to Biotechnology. The suggestion was noted for further action in future.
