Teacher’s Day Celebrations
To commemorate the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, a scholar, philosopher, and Bharat Ratna awardee on the 5th of Sept. 2023, Teacher’s Day was celebrated at Dolphin (PG) Institute with zeal and vigour. Shri Arvind Gupta, Chairman conveyed his wishes to the teaching fraternity for their dedication and commitment in shaping students’ future In his address he put up a philosophical question of differentiating between the Teachers and Guru, the traditional Indian word, often people mistake for teacher. Dr. Shailja Pant, Principal also wished the faculty members on the occasion and motivated them to keep giving their best.
Dr.VC Reddy from Department of Pathology answered his query by deeply dwelling in to the issue as of how a teacher or Shikshak is bound by a syllabus set by a 3rd party, often the State/University, where the students knows what he is suppose to learn and teacher also has a same prescribed format for all students.
There was yet another category of learner-teacher tradition called Upadhyay where the learner knew what he is suppose to learn, mostly bound by family traditions like reciting Vedas in part like Dwivedi, Chaturvedi , Trivedi etc..where purpose of learning was preserving traditional scriptural knowledge.
Where as Guru is not bound by any such rules/restrictions and shishya may not be even aware what exactly he is going to receive most of it is matter of faith and unlike teacher Guru cannot be limited by any shortcomings of sishya, he can transcend shortcomings and make sishya receive what seemed like Impossible. This would enable the shishya to achieve the ultimate goal of life, which is finding the self as being in Unison with GOD as per Indian philosophy.
He also went on to describe about great Gurus of Indian tradition like Guru Gorakh Nath, Guru Nanak, Neem Karoli Baba, and Shri Raman Maharshi and Nisarga Dutta Maharaj.
The faculty members also enjoyed mouth watering and delicious snacks. They were also gifted a token of gratitude by the Management of the Institute. The students from various departments also celebrated the day with much enthusiasm to make the day even more memorable for their teachers.
