Swachh Bharat Mission
Swachhata Pakhwadas are being organized since April 2016 with the objective of bringing a fortnight of intense focus on the issues and practices of swachhata. This is one of the key programmes under the Swachh Bharat Mission.
To commemorate the event, various activities were carried out the different departments;
Department of Forestry carried out Cleanliness campaign “Clean your surroundings” on 14th of September, 2022 with a view to not only creating cleaner campus but also the environment surrounded with life supporting forest around our college. Faculty, staff and students carried out drive and removed plastic and other wastes from the forest floor in the vicinity of our Institute.
Students of B Sc Forestry 1st & 5th Semester and M Sc Forestry 2nd Semester participated in the campaign along with faculty members. Two groups of students were made for the campaign. One group walked towards the Sal forest in Northwest direction to remove litter, lead by Dr Manish Kumar & Mr Anil Kumar Kewat led another group of students towards the Balasundari temple. Considering good number of footfall in both zones these areas were selected for drive. Total 81 students and 5 faculty & staff participated in the activity.
On 14th September, 2022, a seminar on “Importance of Health and Hygiene in our life” was organized by the Department of Commerce to commemorate Swachhta Pakhwada. Dr. Siddhant Khanna, MBBS , MD, Krishna Medical Institute was the guest speaker for the day.
The seminar was very informative and insightful as it provided information on importance of health and hygiene in our life.
Overall the 90 participants were present in the session. They were very keen to know about the basic information about personal hygiene. After the session the common response from the participants was that they learnt many important things about personal hygiene which are very essential for a better life style and to maintain a good health. This session was also helpful in creating awareness about the ways to get rid of contagious diseases while maintaining a hygienic life style.
DSW Sh. Vipul Garg, Head of the Department Mrs. Rama Garg, Ms. Ruchika Bhatnagar, Mr. C. S. Pandey and Mr. Sandeep Rawat were present during the programme.
As part of Celebration of ‘Swachch Bharat Mission,’ Swachhta Pakhwada was observed during September 1-15, 2022 in the Institute. On 14th September 2022, the Department of Biotechnology organized a webinar on “Higher Education Institutes and Swachhta” for the students and employees to discuss the issues involved in Swachhta. Dr. Shatrughan Bhardwaj, a renowned expert in this area was invited to educate the students and staff on this issue. Dr. Bhardwaj, PGDJMC, PGDGC, is a Doctorate in Non-violence and Peace Education. He has been working as a senior faculty in Mahatma Gandhi National Council of Rural Education (MGNCRE), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Govt. of India. . He is also a resource person in Haryana institute of Rural Development and visiting faculty in various universities. . Various suggestions were given by Dr. Bhardwaj on how to maintain cleanliness and hygienic environment of the Institute premises.
“Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” It is the mantra of Mahatma Gandhiji, Father of Nation. He demonstrated, propagated and insisted for individual and community cleanliness throughout his life. Following his footprints, Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Chemistry has been organizing cleanliness drives frequently. This year also a cleanliness’ awareness programmee was organized on 15th September 2022 to mark the Swachhata Pakhwadas. Awareness programme was carried out in the college premises where faculty and students presented their views and suggestions how to implement it more effectively to make these kinds of drives successful. Later rally was also organized where students and faculties of department visited nearby village (Manduwala). Students presented their views through posters and slogans along with picking garbage comprising of used packets of eatables etc along side roads of the localities. Posters were also displayed in the institute premises. Students and faculties were very much enthusiastic and thus attempt of increasing awareness amongst people of village was quite fruitful. Dr. Versha Parcha, Dr. Deepak Kumar, Dr. Raju and Dr. Ritu Singh and 35 students participated in the event.
Swachhta Pakhwada was organised by the Department of Horticulture alongwith the students of B.Sc Horticulture II and III year accompanied with the faculty members of the Department on 13th September 2022. Various activities like the Cleanliness drive, awareness on ban of Single Use Plastics (SUP’s), Let Us Go Green initiative etc were carried out by the students from college premises to Manduwala chowk. Removal of metallic and non-metallic waste items that were piled up around the college and on the road were collected in bags and were disposed off at the designated place.
Department of Physiotherapy, DIBNS conducted an Intradepartmental E – Poster competition on “saluting waste warriors” to celebrate swachta Pakhwada on 15th September 2022. 18 students from BPT and MPT participated in the event. Miss Shalu from BPT 3 Year stood first; Miss Sonam from BPT3 year and Mr. Mohit and Mr. Prince from BPT 2 year stood second, Miss Anantika from MPT 1 year and Mr Aman of BPT 1 year got the third prize. Students enjoyed the event and it was concluded by a motivating speech by Dr. Shruti Sharma, Co-ordinator IQAC. Students were awarded with prizes.
All faculty members of the department were present during the event and motivated every student. Organiser of the event was Dr.Keerty Mathur, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiotherapy.
Swachhata Pakhwada was celebrated by the Department of Pathology and BMW Committee on 14th September, 2022. The program started by Mrs. Rashmi Chauhan giving information about biomedical waste. Dr. V.C. Reddy delivered a special lecture on “Boimedial West-Social Perspective”. The students presented poster presentation and slogan preparation. The students also performed group songs and street plays. The department organized awareness rally and cleanliness drive in Manduwala locality.The program was coordinated and hosted by Aditya Swarup. Dr. Ashwini Sanghi, Mr. Ankit Johri and Mr. Rajesh Jha and 123 students were present during the programme.
During the Swachhata Pakhwada, Department of Microbiology organized ‘Health and Hygiene Awareness Drive’ among the villagers on 14.09.2022. The objective of the campaign was to create awareness about the good hygiene and sanitization among the rural population near the institute. The 50 students of B. Sc. Medical Microbiology (I, II & III year) and M. Sc Microbiology II year were accompanied by the faculty members and staff for a visit to a village Kotra, near Bhauwala, Dehradun. The villagers were told about the hand and personnel hygiene. The school going children and women of the village were given the demonstration of hand washing and hand sanitization. A health and hygiene kit which included soap, face mask, sanitizer and energy biscuits was also distributed to them.
Swachhta Pakhwada was organised by the Department of Agriculture on 13th September 2022. Nearly 100 Students and faculty members of the Department participated in the event. Students collected the waste material from around the college and adjoining area up to Manduwala chowk and brought the waste bags to the college which were later disposed off. They also explained to the residents about proper disposal of the waste.
On 15 September 2022, Department of Zoology organised one day cleanliness drive and Dengue Awareness Camp at Manduwala region. Dr. Beena Joshi Bhatt made the locals and school children aware about the relationship between cleanliness and mosquito spread. She also told about the identification of mosquito breeding sites, their control and preventive measures for Dengue fever. The awareness team disposed off the breeding site from outside the campus area to the Manduwala chowk. In this campaign active participation of 34 students from the Departments of Zoology, Biotechnology and Microbiology was received. Dr. D. K. Bhardwaj was also present during the program.
