Celebration of National Sports Day
Dolphin PG Institute celebrated the National Sports Day-2023 on 29th August in the campus. The theme for this year was “Sports are an enabler to an inclusive and fit society.”Sports have the unique power to bring people together regardless anything but love for sports. In 2012, Government of India declared the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand as National Sports Day, with the aim to inspire generations to come. This decision also focused on promoting sports and physical fitness among the masses.It is a tribute to the hockey ke jadugar, legendry Major Dhyan Chand. Thisday is also an occasion when our nation honours its sporting heroes with recognitions like the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna (formerly called the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna), Arjuna Award, Dhyan Chand Award for lifetime achievement, Rashitriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar, Dronacharya Award and the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy, at a special ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President of India takes this day to confer these national sports awards.The main idea behind celebrating the National Sports Day is to create awareness among people about the benefits of sports, sportsmanship, teamwork, besides encouraging them to opt sports as career.
The program began with the welcome of guests, Director Mr V K Nagpal, Additional Director Mr Sunil Kaul and Coordinator IQAC Dr Shruti Sharma; HoDs & Faculty members and student participants, taken forward with lamp lighting by the guests. Introduction about the event was gievn by Dr Sandhya Goswami, member Sports Committee. Thereafter the newly constituted sports committee (Sports Officer Mr NK Joshi and Committee members Dr. Gyanendra Awasthi, Dr. Vidit Tyagi, Dr. Rashmi Chamoli & Dr. Sandhya Goswami) for academic session 2023-24 was introduced to the students. Director Mr. V.K. Nagpal addressed the gathering. Mr. N. K. Joshi, spoke about the “Importance of sports in Human Life”. Dr Vidit Tyagi played a heart-touching Documentary on Major Dhyan Chand. Students actively participatet in the event. Mr. Suman Singh, Sports Captain, talked on “Major Dhyan Chand, Legend in Indian Hockey” and Ms. Neha Thakur, B. Sc. Forestry 4th year student, spoke on “Sports & Mental Health”. Students also participated enthusiastically in Sport’s Quiz and each-one who gave correct answer was given a token of appreciation. A formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Rashmi Chamoli. The program was wrapped up with National Anthem.
It was a successful event attended by 209 students and 12 faculty & administrative members.
