Field Visit- Department of Forestry
Forestry students of 2nd and 3rd Year BSc course of Dolphin Institute of Biomedical & Natural Sciences ( DIBNS), Dehradun take task of assessing the ECOLOGICAL -cum- ECONOMIC LOSS & GAINS respectively of forest and timber yielding sal (Shorea robusta) and other species in Jhajra forests (Doonga- Bidholi) of Dehradun Forest Division.
– Field class of students was taken in “Forest Theatre” spotted and marked out by BSc Biotech students of DIBNS in August 2010 on their debut field trip with Prof.Sas. Biswas. Wish to take other faculty one day for a session in open.
– Prof. Sas.Biswas, Dr Tahir and Dr Anil Uniyal of Forestry Deptt. guided for the field techniques.
– Reconnaissance survey followed by on-the spot study based on ground reality provided several features wrt conservation, management and utilization.
– Superior forms of sal and teak tree (stands) were studied and photo- documented for further analysis.
– Studies are aimed at students’ research initiatives in forestry and allied subjects.
