World Environment Day
MISSION OF ECO-CLUB
The mission of the eco club is “Go Green initiative” to raise the students’ “interest” over environmental issues and to get the students actively involved in environmental matters from their own area. The club also seeks to conserve nature’s heritage by education and direct conservation efforts to spread awareness about good environmental practices like for a ban on plastic, proper dumping of garbage, planting of tress etc.
ACTIVITY
“A little effort towards saving the environment is better than no effort.”
In reference to the aforesaid subject, World Environment Day was organized in the institute on 5th June, 2023 with this year’s theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” and various programs were organized & coordinated by ECO Club, DIBNS.
A cleanliness drive was organized by the NSS Unit which was carried out from the Institute’s premises till Manduwala Chowk followed by Nukkad Natak in Dolphin Ground, both activities coordinated by Dr. Manoj Bainsala and Dr. Richa Agarwal. In order to make Dolphinites aware of our environment and its conservation, an oath on “Lifestyle for the Environment Pledge” was taken by all the members of Dolphin Institute in the Dolphin Ground. The oath taking ceremony was carried over by Dr. Deepali Rana and Dr. Rashmi Chamoli. To mark this day, tree plantation was also done.
In order to make students aware about the aforesaid aspects, an Interdepartmental Poster Competition on the topic, “Solutions to Plastic Pollution” was organized in which students from all the departments participated. The posters were displayed at the reception area and judgement was done. The participants of this event were motivated by the history & about the environment day celebration by Dr. A.K. Uniyal and inaugural speech by Principal, Dr. Shailja Pant after the lamp lightning ceremony. Dr. Sas Biswas, Head Department of Forestry conducted a quiz which was very interactive with its visuals followed by Interdepartmental Digital Presentation competition on the topic, “Beat Plastic Pollution” which is also the theme of this year’s Environment Day Celebration.
In the Poster Competition Mohit from Department of Physiotherapy won the first prize while the second and third prizes were won by Budata Taniya and Anjali from Department of Pathology and Vedika Negi and Charanpreet Kaur form Department of Biotechnology respectively. Hissay Dorjee Bhutai and Manisha from the Department of Botany were giventhe consolation prize.In the quiz competition Tarun from the Department of Pathology won the first prize. Scond prize was jointly won by Nikita from the Depatment of Agriculture and Vishwendra from the Department of Forestry while Alok Ranjan from the Department of Agriculture won the third prize. In the digital presentation Ashwin and Ashwini from the Department of Forestry were declared winners while Kabari Krishna Borah from Department of Biotechnology and M. Sachidanand from Department of Physics were declared second and third winners. The winners were felicitated by Principal Dr. Shailja Pant, Dean, Shri. Vipul Garg, and Coordinator IQAC, Dr. Shruti Sharma. The event was highly informative for both students and faculty members. The session ended with vote of thanks by Dr. A. K. Pundir. Plant distribution to various NGO’s was done by Dr. Sandhya Goswami and Dr. Manish to commemorate World Environment Day. Around 250 participants attended this program.
